Home of the world’s most iconic running event, Boston is a mecca for runners. Yet the city didn’t have a place to celebrate the heritage of the Boston Marathon. Adidas, the Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.), and Marathon Sports, Inc. had a vision for filling that void. They partnered with Big Red Rooster to conceptualize Boston Marathon RunBase.

RunBase is a global adidas concept that connects to local running communities. The 2,000 sq. ft. Boston Marathon RunBase is designed to support Boston’s running culture. Product focuses on premium running footwear, apparel, and gear, as well as official marathon apparel. Showers, changing rooms, and lockers allow runners to use the store as a base for their runs. A calendar of community runs, expert speakers, elite athlete visits, and workshops make RunBase a place to train and connect with other runners.

Steps from the marathon’s finish line, visitors are greeted by a large, cast sculpture of B.A.A.’s iconic unicorn and a 10-ft., 3D topographic course map. Inspirational exhibits showcase photos, bibs, medals, trophies, and jackets from the B.A.A.’s 119-year-old archives. Visitors can run any part of the marathon on a treadmill that simulates the visuals and terrain of the entire course. RunBase Central’s interactive screens feature historic stories and connect to the race results of every person who has run the race.

Opening April 2015 before the marathon, the store crossed the finish line ahead of expectations, doubling sales forecasts.
